These days it’s hard to find a trailer for an animated film that doesn’t have a smirk-faced character reminiscent of Disney/Pixar or Dreamworks. In the new teaser trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red there is still that flair. But then again, who can really tell from a two minute trailer. With that, I’m going into this one with the benefit of the doubt.

All and all, the trailer seems likable and original (even with the catchy boy band score setting the tone). To give this film further credence is that it is directed by Domee Shi who gained significant notoriety when she directed the adorably poignant Pixar Animated Short Bao (2018) which played before The Incredibles 2 (where she also had a hand in the animation department).

The plot seems to revolve around a young student named Mei Lee whose constantly meddling helicopter mother causes her to stress out to the point of becoming a giant red panda. Sounds cute enough, but I guess we won’t know until it releases on March 11th, 2022. Until then, sit back, relax, and check out the trailer for Turning Red.
